Kwara government laments high level of deforestation

The state Commissioner for Environment and Forestry Otunba Taiwo Joseph has lamented the level of deforestation and degradation, saying concerted must be taken to out an end to it.

The commissioner lauded a private company that recently commenced plantation seven thousand trees on the five thousand acquired hectares of land at Tumbuyan via Ilesha-Baruba in the Baruten local government area of Kwara.

He said commended the company for venturing into uncharted water, saying it remained the only organization that has risen to the Sustainable Forestry Management in the state. He lamented that reforestation programme remains the best way to fighting forest encroachment, the global warning and the climate change.
