- Sheds light on body recovered from Asa River with mouth, hands tied.
The Director Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa has called on landlords, landladies, parents and guardians to report mentally unstable persons to appropriate quarters, attributing the incident of a lady found drowned in a well to mental crisis.
Speaking during an interview on Royal FM radio, Ilorin, on Tuesday, Falade said Kwara has not recorded emotional suicide cases like in some others, noting that Kwara remains peaceful and cool for people to live in.
While counseling residents on depression, the fire service director called for calm, saying Nigeria will be better. He noted that suicide will never be a solution to depression but only creates more problem.
He called on parents to guide their children against bad influence, saying bad influence contributes to criminality.
Reacting to the recovery of a corpse from the Asa River along emir road with hands and head tied in suspected case of murder, Falade described it as devilish, saying the police has already been informed and investigation is ongoing.
A dead body of a young man on Monday afternoon recovered from Asa River, along Emir’s road, Ilorin by the operative of the Kwara State Fire Service with hands and mouth of the victim found tied.
A statement by the spokesperson of the Kwara state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, said “on 15th of November, 2021 at about 14:40hrs, one Mr. Olamilekan brought it to the attention of the Kwara State Fire Service that a dead body was seen at Asa River, along Emir’s road, Ilorin.”
“Our officers proceeded to the area and we were able to remove the body from the river.”
“The sucking aspect of the incident was that the casualty hands were tied together and his mouth too was covered by some tattered wrappers.”
Mr. Hassan, however said that “the case later handed over to the Nigeria Police Force through one Superintendent Ajape in the state command.”
When contacted, the Police public relation officer, SP Okasanmi Ajayi said. “an information was received by C’ Divisional Police Headquarters, Oja Oba Ilorin to the effect that, a floating male body, was seen at Amilegbe river, Ilorin.
“On the basis of the information, a team of detectives were detailed to the scene, on reaching the scene, men of the Kwara State Fire Service have already removed the body from the river.”
“On a closer examination, the hands of the already decomposing body was found tied to his back, while his head was also wrapped with a cloth, fueling suspicion that the victim was killed and thrown into the river.”
He, however said “the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Police Command, CP Tuesday Assayomo, has ordered a painstaking investigation into the matter to unravel the perpetrators of the heinous crime.”
