Journalists protest detention of colleagues in Kwara

The Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP)  today carried out a peaceful  protest against what they tagged illegal detention of journalists in the state.

It would be recalled that Sobi FM Editor Dare Akogun with his brother, AbdulRaheem were arrested by the Nigeria Police following a petition written by the Kwara State Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, accusing the duo of inciting the public against the government.

The online media team, who came in large numbers, stormed the police headquarters in Ilorin carrying placards with different prescriptions, calling for the release of their colleagues.

Meanwhile, the defendants have been charged to court for prosecution. Two members of the ASKOMP, Sherif Gold and Rilwan Ajadi were said to have been  assaulted, arrested  and charged to court for prosecution.

The police public relation officer, SP Ajayi Okansanmi who described police as peacemaker said the journalists were told  to write an apology to the chief press Secretary , Rafiu Ajakaye but the duo insisted on going to court with a series of evidence against the CPS to the governor .

Ajakaye had earlier petitioned the conditioner of police to investigate okoguns of their online report against him.
