INEC to suspend Continuous Voter Registration on August 17, registers ten million new voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it will suspend the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on August 17 until after the 2019 general elections.

The commission disclosed this in a statement issued by Solomon Soyebi, National Commissioner and Chairman, information and Voter Education Committee, in Abuja. Mr Soyebi, however, said that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) would continue until a week to the commencement of general elections, Feb. 16, 2019.

Meanwhile, No fewer than ten million Nigerians have been registered in the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration. The chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, disclosed this yesterday at the commission’s quarterly consultative meeting with security agencies under the auspices of Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) in Abuja.

The ten million mark has now taken the total number of registered voters to eighty million. Yakubu reiterated INEC’s commitment  to transparency in the conduct of elections and the declaration of results.
