Independent National Electoral Commission collaborates with Independent Corrupt Practices Commission to prosecute politicians with forged academic credentials

Ahead of the 2023 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has collaborated with the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, the Code of Conduct Bureau, and other-related offenses commission to prosecute politicians with forged academic credentials.

According to the Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu , beyond the nullification of elections of candidates that submitted fake or forged credentials, the candidates will be prosecuted.

Professor Yakubu, speaking during a meeting on the collaboration for Effective Tax Compliance of Political Office Holders noted that there is no specific law that makes it mandatory for electoral candidates to present evidence of tax payment before they can contest for election.
