Ilupeju community protest non connection to national grid, seeks governor’s intervention

The residents of Ilupeju Community, Ita Nma area, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, have staged a peaceful protest in condemnation of the government of Mallam AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq for neglecting the plight of the community.

The demonstrators who took their protest to the government house, Ilorin, on Friday carried placards with different inscriptions which include: “Light up our community, Save Ilupeju from security threat, Save our community from darkness, Ilupeju prays for your success and victory, connect Ilupeju Community to national grid or loss our votes”, among others.

In an interview with reporters , the leader of the protesters who is also the Chairman of Electrification Project, Ilupeju Community, Mallam Yusuf Jimoh Abimo said they have written different letters to the Ministry of Energy and Governor since 2019 to express their dismay but continue to fall on deaf ears.

Mallam Jimoh also said the community has expended millions of naira in purchasing electrical materials but the lean resources of the members necessitated the call for intervention.

On his part, the secretary, Ilupeju Community, Mallam Sheikh Ahmadwho prayed for the success of Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq said the darkness retards the growth of the community and pleaded on the Governor to give them their share of dividends of democracy.

Meanwhile, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Aliyu Muyideen, pleaded with the community to go back home.

Royal Times reports that The SSA pledged to relay their grievances to the governor, assuring them that they will soon see positive response from the government.
