A security guard from Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps attached to a private residence of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi was on Sunday night gunned down by unknown gunmen.
According to reports, the man, Marcus went to purchase airtime for his mobile phone before returning to the gate where the men opened fire on him. They also made away with his rifle before speeding off.
His other colleagues who were inside however rushed out upon hearing gunshots but the assailants had already gone. Marcus was rushed to Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife where he was confirmed dead.
The assailants neither attacked the residence nor robbed any of the occupants, but only made away with the officer’s rifle.
