Following various impacts of climate change experienced within communities in Kwara state capital; The Global Shapers Ilorin Hub has embarked on grassroots community outreaches to mitigate and educate residents on the effect of climate change.
According to members of Global Shapers, Ilorin Hub, the move is to encourage climate change awareness in communities by focusing on local or regional impacts.
To this end, Key outreach activities including climate awareness, capacity-building workshops, clean-ups, and tree planting were embarked on in recent Grassroots community outreaches at Alanamu and Sabo Oke area of Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
Speaking with newsmen on the sideline of the community outreach, Director of Programs and Project at Ilorin Global Shapers community Azeez Abubakar submitted that a handful of residents in both communities were educated on issues of climate change with wastes recovered.
Also speaking, Ridwan Adelaja, a member of the Ilorin Global Shapers community expressed optimism that members of the community will take the campaign up from where they stop harping on the need to keep the environment clean.
Meanwhile, some residents at Alanamu and Sabo Oke Community commended the spirited efforts of the Global Shapers Ilorin Hub for the grassroots outreach saying the development could not have come at a better time.
