The need for a more concerted effort aimed at savaging the impact of floods that ravaged parts of Nigeria has again been re-emphasized.
The charge was made by the Bishop, Anglican Diocese of Kwara State- Rev. Sunday Timothy Adewole at a press briefing held on Monday as part of programmes lined up to herald the 50th Anniversary of Anglican Diocese of Kwara.
According to the Bishop, regardless of our religious differences; humans must be more intentional at seeking the peace of where they are residing, an attitude which will in the long-run build a society conducive for habitation.
“We want you to be heavenly conscious and at the same time earthly useful, irrespective of rec, tribe, colour or religion to be useful to the human being so that.
With this, we felt that it calls for celebration and we said that for us to celebrate we need to start three years before the time. in 2024 by the grace of God the Diocese of Kwara will be 50 years old” he added
It is recalled that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed that about thirty-three state of the federation got hit by flash floods with at least 603 people losing their lives and one point three million persons displaced from their communities in Nigeria
The Lord Bishop outlined the landmark achievements of the Diocese since its inception in Kwara which are way more than contributions from tithes and offerings gotten from members and spirited individuals of the diocese. These landmark achievements are not limited to model Schools with affordable fees; modern 37 Locked-up Shops at a choice location in Ilorin metropolis; a medical facility and a Printing Press with state of the earth facility.
The head of the Anglican Church in Kwara noted that over a thousand hectares of land have been lying fallow for over 3 years as a result of the threat to life by marauding gun-wielding herders.
Bishop Adewole added that “armed herdsmen invaded the place and in fact the anchor man all he planted there could not be harvested as we need to access the farmland with vigilantees. This is the main reason for the suspension of the farm project till date ”
Meanwhile, the Anglican Diocese of Kwara was established forty-eight years ago- an offshoot of the Ibadan Diocese in the year 1974. But as a Church, the Anglican Church has been in existence in Kwara for over a century with the first Cathedral in the state being the St. Barnabas Anglican Cathedral, Ilorin established in the year 1910.
In 2024, the Diocese will be having her golden jubilee but has outlined programmes, events, and activities prior to the mega ceremony part of which is the press briefing and a church service scheduled to take place at the St. Barnabas Cathedral this evening
