FIFA investigates Manchester City over recruitment of youth players.

FIFA investigates Manchester City over recruitment of youth players.

FIFA has confirmed that it is carrying out an investigation into Manchester City’s recruitment of youth players. However, City have said they have no knowledge of the investigation and world football’s governing body has not asked them to provide any information.

A source in the Manchester City football club questioned whether the investigation was linked to an ongoing inquiry into the club’s recruitment of Benjamin Garre.

City signed Garre, then sixteen years old, from Velez Sarsfield in September 2016, but the Argentine club claimed the move breached FIFA rules on the signing of players under-eighteen from outside the European Union.

FIFA ruled in City’s favour because Garre holds an Italian passport, but Velez have taken the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with a decision expected this month. FIFA confirmed this week that it is also investigating Chelsea over youth transfers
