FAAN union members this morning, in protest shut down Arik Air’s operation in the Murtala Mohammed airport terminal 1 for owing up to the tune of N12.9 billion naira.
As early as 5am, union members blocked entrance to the waiting hall and cleared all Arik’s waiting polls at the MMA terminal 1 chanting solidarity songs.
According to a news source privy to the situation, Arik air is owing FAAN for the use of the terminal at MMA 1 and they won’t be allowed to use the terminal until they pay up their debt.
The source further stated that Arik isn’t just owing FAAN but also its staff and the hotels where they lodge their passengers and also the company that supplies them with aviation fuel.
It is gathered that Arik air hasn’t increased its workers salary since 2009.
In a telephone conversation with another source, she said FAAN union is protesting because Arik air has defaulted in paying for the use of the terminal at the MMA 1 and that’s why FAAN union shut them from operating this morning.
She went on to say this made most passengers who had started arrive to be waiting, some wandering aimlessly while others looked stranded.
