Ex-Kwara Speaker, Tunde Muhammed emerges PDP State Chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara, Saturday, elected new State executives at its State Congress with Hon. Babatunde Muhammed, emerging as the new State Chairman of the party.

At the State Congress held at the Atlantic Event Centre, Offa Garage road, Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, party delegates elected state executives by concensus.

Hon. Umar Gunu Mohammed emerged as the PDP state Deputy Chairman while Alh. AbdulRazaq Lawal was elected as the Secretary.

Alhaja Riskat Abdulahi emerged as State Women leader, Aliru Dansoho as Youth leader and Tunde Ashaolu retained his position as Publicity Secretary.

Other officers elected under the arrangement include Bisi Fakayode, chairman Kwara South Senatorial zone; Shuaib Baba Jimoh, Chairman, Kwara North Senatorial zone and Alh. Isiaka Owolabi for Kwara Central.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Mohammed Babatunde, who hails from Agunji Ward, Omupo Constituency in Ifelodun Local Government area, said his team will hit the ground running.

The former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, said the present administration has failed to fulfil all the promises made during the last election.

He assured that the PDP will take power back to restore good leadership.

The new chairman said that he was not unawares of the tasks ahead, but said that he was ready to do what is necessary.

“We will start work from the grassroots and work our walk our way up.

“We will use the next local government to tell Kwara people that we are back,” he said.

In his remark at the end of the congress, former Senate President Bukola Saraki said that work has begun in earnest.

“As soon as you leave this venue work should begin.

“The peaceful conduct of this Congress has confirmed to me that we are indeed ready to take back power in Kwara,” he said.

The PDP leader lauded the party members for staying united and sacrificing their individual ambitions in the interest of the party.

He charged the new party excos and members to begin massive political canvassing for the PDP’s takeover ahead of the forthcoming election.

Affirming the arrangement and election of the party executives, Hon. John Akwarashi, leading the election committee from the National headquarters of PDP, said it was gratifying that the information they heard from Abuja that Kwara was choosing the consensus option was confirmed in Ilorin.

Also affirming, Mallam Shehu Abdulkadir, team leader from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said that it was its duty to observe and ascertain if the officers were chosen through laid down procedure of the party.

“From what we have seen, it’s clear that the choice by consensus is the overwhelming choice of the party members,” he said.

Other officials elected in the well attended Congress, include Alhaja Balikis Oniyangi, Organizing Secretary; Comrade Abdul-hamid Issa Adangba, Senatorial Youth Leader ( Central).

Others are Alhaja Afusat Iyamileko, Senatorial Women Leader (Central); Mrs. Margret aka Yeyeluwa, Senatorial Women Leader (South); Alhaji Morocco, Treasurer, among others.
