We don’t know the source of the $50m discovered by EFCC – CBN

We don’t know the source of the $50m discovered by EFCC – CBN

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said it does not know the source of $50m discovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at an apartment in Ikoyi Lagos.

It could be recalled that the National Intelligence Agency had claimed ownership of the money, stating that it was meant for a covert operation.

Governor Nyesom Wike had also laid claim to the funds. Wike alleged that the $50m was part of money made from the sale of gas turbine in the state which he claimed his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi stole.

CBN spokesman Isaac Okorafor while speaking with The Nation said the apex bank only issues currencies to banks who then give them to customers.

Okorafor said; “I do not know the source of the money; we (CBN) only issue currencies to banks which then transmit the currencies to their customers,” .
