The Kwara State House of Assembly has directed the payment of a sum of N6.171m to the building contractor of the Ultra Modern Abattoir Project, Akerebiata, Ilorin.
This was part of the resolutions of the House after considering the Report of House Committee on Commerce, Industry, Women Affairs and Social Development during plenary on Tuesday.
The report was presented by the committee chairman and lawmaker representing Malete-Ipaye-Oloru Constituency, Hon. Babatunde Abdul-Kareem-Paku.
Mr Abdulkareem-Paku acted on a Letter, titled “Passionate Appeal for Intervention on the Settlement of Outstanding Payment for construction of the Ultra Modern Abattoir Project, Akerebiata, Ilorin.”
The House also directed that a Memorandum of Understanding be drafted and signed between the investor, Voladotun Venture, Ministry of Local Government and Ilorin-East Local Government to enable the investor to recoup his funds.
Speaker, Rt Hon. Salihu Yakubu-Danladi, who read the resolution, said the money should be paid to the contractor in three instalments of N2m each.
The House also tasked the investor to take necessary steps and engage the end-users, the butchers to put the
facility into use and stop the unhygienic method of animal slaughtering to ensure the cleanliness of the environment.
