The President, Darus-Salam Women Islamic Organisation and Women Charity Centre Worldwide, Hajia Halimat Funmilayo Gambari Hassan Zaruki, has called on the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to come to the aid of women through empowerment and job opportunities.
She said only then can women be able to take good care of their children, be good supporters of their husbands, live productively and add to the economy of the state and the nation at large.
Hajia Hassan Zaruki made the call at the occasion of Darus-Salam Empowerment Program held for more than 1,000 Muslim women in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
She lamented over the hardship that women encounter in starting a business or sustaining an existing one due to the economic situation in the country.
She said, “In the true sense of it, empowering our women is essential, necessary at this stage where poverty has become the landlord of our homes. Women today encounter hardship at home and in their businesses.
“They are striving so that things can move well, but shops without goods and talents without money are the Alpha and Omega of their lives.”
Hajia Hassan Zaruki, however, noted that “poverty can be reduced drastically in the society when wealthy people assist less-privileged through viable empowerment that can improve the standard of living and assist in alleviating poverty in communities.”
The empowerment programme, the coordinator said, was an avenue to empower the less privileged women, make them self-reliant and lift many out of poverty. She admonished them to make judicious use of whatever they get to break the yoke of poverty.
“Let’s understand that the package is a seed that must be sown. We must not act like the ungrateful steward who buried his one talent in the ground. I advise everyone of us to put her energy into sowing the seed so that we reap the gain in future.”
Hajia Gambari thanked the Director, TU-E Capital Investment Limited, Alhaji Oluwatoyin Ayinde Agidi for the support and philanthropic gesture.
Highpoint of the event was the award of cash amounting to several millions of naira to women and hundreds of artisan job opportunities. The philanthropist also also announced sponsored trip to Mecca for some members of the Islamic organization and pledged to build houses for widows present.
Agidi, an illustrious son of Ilorin, Kwara State, charged them to be prudent with the resources.
The event witnessed Quran recitation and music interlude by Islamic singers present.
