Final year students of the department of Performing Arts and Film Production, Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete; at the grand finale of this year’s annual festival of plays put forward a brilliant performance as an icing on the cake.
The performance is a dance theatre titled “Married to the God’s” written by Biola Adumati.
“Married to the God’s” is a stage performance centered around a young lady by the name Orisafunmi who is betrothed to a river prince. This however led to the death of her suitors as Orisafunmi never knew she was betrothed to the marine world by her mother who had issues with childbirth.
Chairman of the occasion and brother to the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, Dr. Uthsman Oladipo Akanbi, called the performance a sterling performance.
“You took me back to the years of NTA Ibadan, when they use to do premiers films like ‘Ogboju Ode’, ‘Igbo Orumole’ and other ones depicting the doctor of the rivers. The sky is your limit. I congratulate you and I congratulate the star performer- the lady there was hardly ever tired. Every now and then she was always coming on stage. I congratulate you” he said.
Head of Department, Performing Arts and Film Production, KWASU who is also the Chief supervisor of the special project- Prof. Jeleel OJUADE, in his reaction appreciated the efforts made by the lecturers who to him are the tools the Almighty choose to use to bring out the best in the students.
He said: “Permit me to do something extra-ordinary; we all know what is going on in this country, they said the reward of teachers is in heaven without a thought of your lecturers. Please I’ll want my colleagues to stop-out…”
According to the Professor of Dance Studies, the perfect blend of music, dance and drama is a replica of humanity and society on stage.
“I want to tell you that everybody should just go and study performing arts because it simplifies human life. It gives you added experience, it exposes you to a lot of things. You’ll see life the way it should be. It builds you”
The choreographer of the stage performance- Ayodeji Agunbiade, who breathe life into the written piece opened the play and closed the show by handing over a pot as a symbol to the next set of students who would stage the Drama for 2023.
“you know what we all crossed the line alive, you’ll go beyond that. See è mà lò…” he said with confidence.
