A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Thursday passed a ruling ordering the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to unfreeze the account of former first lady, Patience Jonathan.
The account which contained $5.9 million was frozen after a Federal high court sitting in Lagos had in December ordered the freezing of multiple accounts allegedly owned by Mrs. Jonathan.
The account was frozen after the court said the money was suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Mrs. Jonathan had sued the EFCC claiming that the money belonged to her, while claiming they were gifts to her while ex-President Jonathan was in government.
The EFCC had also frozen four companies’ accounts in Skye Bank with a balance of $15,591,700 while investigating a former Special Adviser to ex-President Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamowei Dudafa.
