Babatunde Omidina popularly known as ‘Baba Suwe’ has been admitted at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi Araba, Lagos. The National President of Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria, Mr Bolaji Amusan, popularly known as ‘Mr Latin’ disclosed this on Friday in Lagos.
Amusan said that the development was as a result of the approval of the association’s appeal to the Federal Government to foot the medical bill of Baba Suwe. He said the ailing veteran comedian who was alleged to be suffering from an unknown sickness had been promised a first class treatment by the Federal Government at LUTH.
Meanwhile, the vice president of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osibanjo has reportedly donated the sum of one million naira to the ailing actor.
Baba Suwe was arrested and detained by the National Drug and Law Enforcement Agency in 2011 for alleged drug trafficking. He was detained for twenty-four days while NDLEA officers waited for him to excrete the suspected cocaine wraps he was accused of ingesting. However, Baba Suwe did not and was released on bail by the court. He later took the NDLEA to court, won and was awarded twenty-five million naira in compensation for the wrongful arrest. He has never received that money.
