Assembly charges Kwara government on bridges reconstruction, expansion across state

An appeal has gone to Kwara State Government  to direct Ministry of Works and Transport to reconstruct and expand damaged bridges across the state to halt flood related accidents

This was part of the resolutions of the House after considering a Matter of General Public Importance titled “Expansion, Reconstruction and Barricades of some bridges in across the state” raised by Jimoh Ali-Yusuf representing Ilorin East Constituency

Ali-Yusuf specifically identified Sobi-Akanlabi-Abatoir bridge as a death trap that has led to loss lives including a Popular Islamic Scholar, Shaikh Abdulganeey Zul Nurain- Aboto

Some Lawmakers in their contributions, Abdulrazaq Owolabi representing Share Oke-Ode Constituency and Olumide Awolola of Isin Constituency cautioned residents against indiscriminate dumping of refuse drainages and advocated persistent inspection of bridges during dry season to ascertain the ones to be reconstructed to guard against flood

Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker, Engineer Yakubu Salihu tasked Ministry of Works to install roads signs, barricades in the affected roads and urged Kwarans to be safety cautious to prevent disaster

As reported by Royal FM correspondent, Olarotimi Oshin, the House also received the report of Auditor General For Local Governments in the General Purpose Financial Statements Cash Basis  of the Sixteen Local Governments in Kwara State for the year Twenty Twenty-One and referred  to House Committee on Public Accounts for further legislative action
