The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has outlined steps the government must take to end its six-month-long academic strike.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today monitored by Royal FM, ASUU President, Prof. Emmanuel OSODEKE, said the government must exhibit transparency.
The university don added that the government must clearly state its position on the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS), a payroll system which ASUU wants as a replacement for the Integrated Payroll and Personnel information system (IPPIS).
Prof. OSODEKE also accused the Federal Government of appealing to sensibilities rather than solving the issues raised by the union.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has invited pro-chancellors, vice-chancellors and chairmen of governing councils of federal universities to a meeting in Abuja scheduled to take place on the 6th of September as part of efforts to resolve the ongoing strike by the ASUU.
The meeting was convened by the National Universities Commission, which stated that participants would review actions of the government on the strike.
It could be recalled that the industrial action embarked by ASUU on the 14th of February got extended indefinitely after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union on Monday.
