Ambassadorial Appointment: Gombe Gov Receives Akko Community on “Thank You’ Visit

…Says His Administration Remains Resolute in Supporting Women to Excel

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya says his administration will remain resolute in supporting women to excel in their various endeavours.

The Governor was speaking when he received the newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Hajara Salim accompanied by members of Akko community, led by the Emir on a thank you visit at the government house.

Governor Yahaya said women and youths have played key role in bringing his administration on board, as such his support to empower them to attain any position is non negotiable.

“Gombe is blessed with women of substance considering the likes of Hajiya Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, the former president of court of appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, Hon Aishatu Jibir Dukku and the newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia Dr Hajara Salim among others who have attained various key positions in public service before joining politics”.

“This Government from day one has identified with women and has worked to ensure that they get their fair share in various positions of governance because we believe women in different parts of the world have made a lot of difference and our own cannot be different”.

The Governor received the newly appointed Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Hajara Salim accompanied by members of Akko community, led by the Emir on a thank you visit at the government house.

He was confident that Dr. Hajara Salim is equal to the task in the new appointment considering the key and sensitive positions she held during her civil service career and urged her to be a good ambassador of Nigeria, Gombe state and her immediate community in Akko.

He charged her to initiate areas of collaboration with Malaysian authorities with a view to attracting development to Gombe state and Nigeria in general.

“Gombe state is in touch with one of the universities in Malaysia on how to support our state’s university of science and technology in Kumo and how we will move forward, and coincidentally you are from Akko, we hope you will intervene to fast track the collaboration for the benefit of our dear state”.

Earlier in her address, Dr Hajara Salim said she was in Gombe government house on a thank you visit to governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya over the support her accorded her in ensuring her appointment as an envoy, assuring of good representation in the diplomatic engagement.

“The present administration in Gombe state has empowered women to be part of governance and we are assuring his excellency that he will not regret giving us this opportunity contrary to the notion that women lack leadership capacity”.

She solicited for more support, prayers and guidance as she undertakes the new assignment.

The Emir of Akko, Alhaji Umar Mohammed Atiku, described the appointment of Dr Hajara Salim as ‘square peg in the square hole’.

He said Dr Salim is a typical community woman who knows the plight of women and youths, hence vouched for the envoy that she will add value to Nigeria’s diplomatic relations with Malasia in many ways.

Alh Umar Atiku thanked Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for supporting women in their cause.

In her brief remarks, the member representing Dukky/ Nafada Federal Constituency, Hon. Aishatu Jibir Dukku, who accompanied Dr Salim in the spirit of solidarity to women folks, said the new appointee was already an ambassador at various stages in the past before attaining the present appointment and therefore expressed optimism that she will make a visible impact.

While thanking Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for empowering women in his government, Hon. Dukku said the recent appointment of Dr Hajara Salim has added weight to women folks in Gombe state.
