Alumni should be institutionalized -Omopupa

An Associate Professor of Library and Information Science Dr Kamal Tunde Omopupa has canvassed institutionalization of Alumni in various institutions of learning, this according to him will go a long way to sustain these institutions.

Omopupa , a University Librarian  designate  University Of Ilorin stated this at the weekend during the 35 years Anniversary  re-union celebration of class ’87 Alumni .

According to him Alumni needs no legal backing to establish but the institutionalization of Alumni so that students can understand the importance of giving back to their Alma mater, the school that has made them (Student) what they are.

Dr Omopupa who also doubles as President 1987 set of Government High School, Adeta, Ilorin who expressed joy that his class mates are now doing well in their various field of endeavors thanks their school teachers from years back who graced the colorful occasion.

Commenting on 1987 set impact on their Alma mater (GHS), Omopupa said ‘’my exco was inaugurated on 1st oct.2021 and immediately we swung into action by dividing the who house into various committees so that we can achieve success ,we came up with the idea of having this reunion in 2022 ,along the line a lot of things happened, we lost one of our members, we lost a teacher ,some of our members celebrated birthdays and some gave their daughters in marriage ,others had weddings of their sons and we all attended all these programs as ’87 set’’.

 

“ As regards social responsibility to our Alma Mater ,we have been able to provide water to the school  which cost us up to 1.8 million Naira ,a Generator set ,renovation and fumigation of special student hostels ,provision of sports and office equipment among others ”,Omopupa added.
