Akwa United player and officials injured in a crash

Akwa United player and officials injured in a crash

One player and two officials of Akwa United were reportedly injured in an accident on Friday (today) morning, while on their way for a Nigeria Professional Football League clash against Jigawa Golden Stars in Kaduna.

The player and officials have been taken to the hospital.

The team bus conveying the players from their base in Uyo to Kaduna for their match-day 15 tie versus Jigawa Golden Stars was involved in a head-on collision with a truck along in Enugu State.

According to the club’s media officer, Mfon Patrick, the unnamed player and two officials of the team sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

He said, “We have been involved in an accident along Ezionye express road in Enugu on our way to Kaduna for our NPFL match-day 15 game against Jigawa Golden Stars.

“Players and officials have sustained injuries. One player and two officials have been taken to the hospital.”

This is not the first time that an NPFL side had been involved in a road accident this season.

On March 2, Wikki Tourists bus was razed by fire on their way to Uyo for a clash with Dakkada FC.

A day after, the Kano Pillars bus also caught fire on their way to honour an NPFL match in Makurdi, Benue State.

Three days after the Pillars’ incident, another fire incident was averted as Kwara United travelled back from Enugu to Ilorin in their team bus, after an NPFL clash with Rangers, following a mechanical fault.

Adamawa United’s team bus was also attacked by gunmen while on their way to Lagos for their game against MFM FC, with their bus driver kidnapped, but released days after.
