Adamawa APC rejects new date for supplementary poll, threatens boycott

The All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State has threatened to boycott the supplementary governorship election if the Independent National Electoral Commission insists on conducting it on Thursday.

The State Organizing Secretary of APC, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan, made the party position known today in Yola. Lawan said that the party has rejected the Thursday’s date and communicated its position to the electoral body.

INEC had announced Thursday for the supplementary election. Lawal, said INEC did not consult the party before fixing the new date for the poll. He alleged that information had filtered out earlier that the election would be held on Thursday, March 28.

While noting that the party is not afraid of re-run election, Lawal said INEC should have done the right thing, questioning why the electoral commission fixed the election on a working day.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Kassim Gaidam, fixed the election for Thursday after consultation with security agencies. He disclosed that only voters carrying permanent voter cards of the affected polling units will have access to voting centres to avert possible break down of order.

An Adamawa high court sitting in Yola had earlier vacated an order restraining INEC from conducting a supplementary election in the state.
