Mobile phones have transitioned over the past years, from “Simple” to “Smartphone’s”. It has transformed dramatically to become information and communication hubs fundamental to modern life.
Mobile phones also known as “cellular phone, cell phone, hand phone, sometimes we just call it ‘Phone” is a portable device telephone that can make and receive calls over a radio frequency link, while the user is moving within a service range.
In 1983, the world got the first ever portable mobile phone, in the shape of the Motorola DynaTAC 800X, it cost an eye-watering sum of $4,000 and was a huge status symbol at the time.
Mobile phones first launched in Europe 1991, but it wasn’t until 1992 that mobiles were no longer restricted to business use. Mass production paved the way for cost-effective consumer mobile devices with digital displays.
Early cell phones were just for talking. Gradually, features like voicemail were added, but the main purpose was talk. Eventually, cell phone manufacturers began to realize that they could integrate other technologies into their phone and expand its features. The earliest smart phones allow users to access email, and use the phone as a fax machine, pager, and address book.
In recent years, the purpose of the cell phone has shifted from a verbal communication tool to a multimedia tool, often adopting the name “mobile device” rather than being called a phone at all. We now use our cell phones more for surfing the web, checking email, snapping photos, and updating our social media status more than actually placing calls.
The cell phones of today are also replacing our other gadgets, such as cameras and video cameras. When cameras were first introduced on phones, the images were low quality and the feature was considered to just be an extra. But with more sophisticated technologies, manufacturers of mobile devices have been able to keep up with improving camera quality. As we all know, a mobile device with high camera functionality is one of the most sought after by many users.
Future of Mobile phones
Mobile phones has come to stay and will continue to improve as existing manufactures have continued to improve on both the hardware and software of this devices, in other to satisfied users who are constantly expecting more exciting features they can perform with these devices in hands.
Mobile phone companies have hinted at a wearable future of smartphones – perhaps wrapped around the wrist, or transformed into a GPS-enabled belt clip, or as a pair of glasses Devices, indeed, could soon be totally reshaped according to individual needs. However, whilst the concept of flexible phones has been demonstrated at trade shows and exhibitions, manufacturers have been slow to bring wearable phones to market, suggesting that the future of smartphones may not include phones as wearables.
