2023: INEC Denies Removal OF Chairman, Admits Pressure To Deliver Free, Fair Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has denied the removal of its chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakub, while admitting that the Commission is under pressure to deliver a free and fair election in 2023.

INEC made the claim on Wednesday through its National Commissioner, Festus Okoye on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme and monitored by RoyalFM News.

Recall that there have been reports claiming the proposed removal of the INEC Chairman before the 2023 General Election.

Speaking on the report, INEC’s National Commissioner, Festus Okoye said Chairman Mahmood Yakubu can only be removed constitutionally if he commits any infraction against his office.

Ahead of the 2023 Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission further stated that it has not printed the Permanent Voter Cards  of Nigerians who participated in the Continuous Voter Registration exercise from January 15 to July 31, 2022.
