2023: Independent National Electoral Commission Vows to End Vote Buying

Ahead of the general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission has promised to roll out measures to tackle vote buying at the polling units on Election Day in 2023.

The Independent National Electoral Commission further highlighted security, campaign finance, technology, availability and collection of permanent voters’ cards, and assurances of transparency with votes as the areas of concern ahead of the election.

Speaking at a Stakeholders’ Forum organized by Civil Society Situation Room in Abuja, the Chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu assured Nigerians that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) has come to stay, insisting that there would be no more use of the incident form.

In another development, INEC said it would publish a summary of the guidelines on finances and election expenses of parties and their candidates today.
