As the 2023 general elections draw closer, the Department of State Services (DSS) has cautioned civil society organisations (CSOs) against fake news and being used by people it called mischievous elements to disrupt Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking at a one-day brainstorming session with CSOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the director-general of the DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, said although the relationship between the Service and CSOs have been cordial, the recent actions by some pressure groups have left much to be desired.
The DG, who was represented by the director of administration, Kabir Sani, also said that sequel to increasing security challenges facing the country, occasioned by the activities of terrorists, kidnappers, cattle rustlers, political thugs, cultists and other undesirable elements working to scuttle the nation’s nascent democratic project, there was urgent need to establish a synergy and partnership between the civil society organisations and members of the intelligence community to find lasting solutions to the challenges.NiMet Forecasts Heavy Rainfall In Abuja, Cross River, Kogi, Others.
As the rainy season gradually sets in, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted heavy rainfall in most parts of the north-central states and Cross River State in the coming days.In its latest weather forecast released on Wednesday, NiMet said in the next three days (Wednesday-Friday) heavy rainfall is expected over parts of Cross River, Koto.., Nasarawa, Niger and the FCT.
The rains should be accompanied by strong winds, especially over the northern states, hence displacement and falling of weak buildings and makeshift structures are likely,” NiMet warned.
NiMet advised the public to exercise restraint and avoid low-level areas and fast-flowing runoff waters, adding that “emergency agencies are to be prepared and keep monitoring.”
