As the strike action embarked upon by the organised labour in Kogi State enters the third week, the workers on Sunday accused the state government of employing propaganda and blackmail in order to cause disaffection and break the ranks of the workers in the state. The unions, who alleged that the move was targeted at their leaders, however charged the workers to be resolute and ensure that they are liberated from the “anti-workers” policies of government.
A statement by the state secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Olakunle Faniyi, and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), secretary, Comrade James Kolawole, said government had been using faceless groups and various forms of intimidation to stampede their members to back out of the strike. The unions however urged workers not to be swayed by the propaganda as the efforts to paint the labour leaders in bad light would not stand the test of time because labour was working with solid reasons and evidence.
