Hours after voting commenced across Nigeria, results have started coming in from polling units. The results from the polling units across the country were announced by the INEC presiding officials and are valid results.
President Muhammadu Buhari won his polling unit, PU003 at Sarkin Yara ward A, in Daura, Katsina. The president scored 523 votes while the Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar got only three votes.
However, the president’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate for Katsina North senatorial district, incumbent Kaita Baba-Ahmad, lost the unit to the candidate of Accord party, Lawal Nalado.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar lost his own polling unit to President Buhari
Wild jubilation broke out following the announcement that Mr Buhari scored 186 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar, who got 167 votes. Atiku’s loyalists were quick to play up the figure as a remarkable showing for their candidate, despite its closeness, saying the unit has been historically won by Mr Buhari, who has stood in every presidential election since 2003.
Atiku however, defeated President Buhari, at the polling unit of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governorship candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state.
