As the 2022 governorship election commenced in Ekiti state, Security has been beefed up in the State , as the Nigeria Police vowed to deal with any electoral offenders during the conduct of the election.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Babatunde Johnson Kokumo, in charge of the Ekiti election, said this when he visited the Ekiti Resident Electoral Commissioner, Rec, Dr Adeniran Rahmon.
meanwhile, The Nigeria Civil Society (NCS) Situation Room has urged political parties and the electorate in Ekiti to shun acts of violence, vote buying and selling during Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The Co-convener of the Situation Room, James Ugochukwu, made the appeal on at a preliminary news briefing in Ado-Ekiti on the Ekiti Governorship Election.
However , the Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has charged the commission’s staff to adhere to its code of conduct and ensure a free, fair and credible exercise.
Meanwhile, in a sequel to the signing into law the Electoral Bill, assented to by the President Muhammadu Buhari on February 25, 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission said it will begin the electronic transmission of results with the Ekiti governorship election.
