The chairmen of the sixteen Local Government Areas in Kwara State have described their suspension by the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdurasak as unconstitutional and a complete waste of time.
Addressing journalists in the state on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Joshua Adekanye noted that there is a pending court order which prohibits the government from taking such an action.
He also wondered why the governor would give such order when according to him, their tenure does not expire until November next year. The Chairmen have therefore filed a contempt of court charge against the Governor, the State House of Assembly and the office of the attorney general of the state.
Meanwhile, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye noted that the governor only acted on the recommendation of the State House of Assembly.
The Assembly had recommended their suspension for six months pending the outcome of an investigation over allegations of misappropriation of funds to the tune of thirty-three billion naira.
