The chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr Stephen Odey, says they have uncovered seven hundred and fifty-eight teachers with fake certificates and seven hundred ghost teachers in its ongoing verification exercise.
Addressing reporters in his office in Calabar, Odey said the exercise has saved the state government between sixty million naira and seventy million naira monthly. He said that the exercise follows a mandate given to him by Governor Ben Ayade to sanitize the educational system across the eighteen local government areas of the state.
He said that the board has put mechanism in place to ensure that further recruitment exercise into the board is devoid of fake teachers. He said despite the stiff resistance they face, the board will not relent in its effort in sanitizing the educational sector in the state.
