The Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has called on youths to imbibe the culture of valuing dignity in the respective ventures they pursue.
The call, he said became expedient in the face of the depreciating value system which has fueled immoral and untoward practices including drug abuse, cyber crimes and other dirty engagements among the youths these days,
The Governor made the charge at the occasion of the final/closing ceremony of the 18th Annual Nigeria’s President National Under-20 Male Youth Football Championship, held at the Main Bowl of the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin.
Represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Joana Nnazua Kolo, Governor Abdulrasaq said there is honour in labour, warning against any form of crime perpetration that is endangering individuals the Country.
He noted that “one naira you earn doing honest job is more honourable than millions of dollars earned through criminal activities.”
He stated that his Adminstration has proven itself to be youth-friendly through the execution of numerous programmes that have positive impact on the youths, and promised to continue doing more, especially in the area of inclusion in government and practical empowerment.
AdulRazaq informed the audience that key highlights of the State’s 2020 budget include construction of Kwara State Innovation Hub aimed at aiding talented young people to explore the world of technology and reach for the highest of their dreams
He drew the people’s attention to some of the other projects the Administration had embarked upon to include the construction of large scale garment production factories, rehabilitation of public school, payment of UBEC counterpart fund, rehabilitation of hospitals and health centres with provision of modern medical and laboratory equipment among others.
The Governor commended the organisers of the programme for their foresight in creating an engaging environment, which he said has diverted the youths’ attention to a venturous activity thereby taking care of the socio-psychological needs of the youths in future.
He added that the commitment of the State Government to the sports sector has led to the State’s football team getting back to the national league, provision of donation to ease the team’s activities, rehabilitation of some sporting facilities in the stadium, as provision has been made to build a twin squash court in the State.
His Excellency also assured that arrangements are going on to ensure restoration of baseball in the Nigeria with the renovation of the first ever Baseball Court in the Country located in Ilorin.
He further explained that the event was significant in the sense that it was anchored in self-discovery and capable of strengthening the country’s bond as one people, one nation united by common destiny.
Also speaking at the occasion, the S.A. Sports and Youth Development, Alhaji Ibrahim Attahiru said that the State Government will continue to partner with African Youth Sports Federation (AYSOF) to see that sports is being used to control youths’ restiveness, generate wealth and delight the spectators through entertainment.
He declared that there was no winner, no loser in the final match between Team Kwara and Team Lagos, despite the game went in favour of the Kwara Team with four goals while Lagos Team recorded no goal.
The statement of the S.A. is symbolic of the fair treatment which the Government of AbdulRazaq prioritises.
Also, Her Excellency, Mrs. Olufolake Ajike AbdulRazaq also received a Gold Medal.
