Sam Smith Makes ‘Late Show’ Debut With Sparkling ‘Diamonds’ Performance.

Sam Smith’s new song is a real gem.

The soulful British pop singer has a U.K. Top 20 hit with “Diamonds,” lifted from their third and latest album Love Goes.

On Thursday (Oct. 29) Smith stopped by The Late Show for the very first time for a sparkling performance of the single, with support from a full band and backing singers.

Love Goes dropped at midnight and is Smith’s first “proper heartbreak” record. “I’d say [this was] the first proper time I’ve been actually heartbroken. That feeling of they’re gone, you can’t sleep, the really, really bad feeling,” they told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.

Smith’s debut album In The Lonely Hour (from 2014) went to No. 1 in the U.K. and No. 2 in the U.S. Its followup The Thrill Of It All from 2017 ruled the charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
