Russia kicked off the World Cup on Thursday with a crushing 5-0 victory against Saudi Arabia.
The Russians gave the winning performance in front of the 80,000-capacity Luzhniki crowd, which included President Vladimir Putin and the Saudi crown prince.
Saudi Arabia is the lowest-ranked side in this year’s tournament and they’ve not qualified for the World Cup since 2006.
Russia came into the tournament second-lowest in the rankings.
The two teams had met only once before in 1993, when Russia lost 4-2 to The Green Falcons in an international friendly.
