The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)said it has begun investigations into the leaked tape allegedly involving Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike plotting with the commission’s officials to rig the Rivers legislative rerun, Punch reports.
It was learnt that INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has set up a four-man committee to carry out a comprehensive investigation on the activities of the commission’s officials during the rerun and the committee was reportedly established after a meeting by the leadership of the commission on Tuesday.
Deputy Director in charge of Voter Education and Publicity, Mr. Nick Dazang confirmed that a four-man has been set up.
Dazang said, “It is true that the commission has set up a four-man committee to investigate the roles of INEC staff in the Rivers National and State Assembly rerun elections of December 10, 2016.
“Among others, this high-powered committee is to identify those who did exceptionally well under difficult circumstances with a view to commending them.”
He further said those found guilty by the committee will be sanctioned.
