The Nigeria Police Force has written to President Muhammadu Buhari, for approval to recruit one hundred and fifty-five thousand new policemen in the next five years.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police on Training and Development, in charge of South-south, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang, said this on Thursday while addressing his men at the headquarters of the Bayelsa State Police Command.
Inyang stated that the request was part of the measures to meet the United Nations standard for effective policing. He also said the police are aware that some personnel work for up to twelve hours, stressing that the hours will be reduced to about eight hours to make policemen more effective in carrying out their duties.
Inyang said available statistics indicates that the crime rate in Bayelsa has reduced drastically. He charged officers and men of the force to shun corruption and embrace President Muhammadu Buhari’s change mantra.
