Police dock two scavengers over alleged generator theft.

The Police on Tuesday docked two scavengers, Abdulahi Saidu, 28, and Abdul Mohammed, 32, before a Kuje Upper Area Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of a generator valued at N80, 000.

Saidu and Mohammed are facing charges of joint act and theft, offences punishable under Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The prosecutor, Doris Okoroba, told the court that one Musa Haruna of Anguwan Gade area, Kuje, reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on Sept. 28.

Okoroba said that the scavengers, who reside at Tipper Garage area of Kuje, allegedly entered into Haruna’s house and stole a generator.

The prosecutor added that the scavengers were about selling the generator at Gudaba area, Kuje, when they were caught and handed over to the police.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The judge, Alhaji Abdulahi Abdulkareem, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N10,000 each, with one surety each in like sum and adjourned the case until Oct. 18 for hearing.
