The Kaduna state police command has confirmed the kidnap of six persons on the Kaduna-Abuja highway by suspected kidnappers in military uniform on Sunday.
A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, PRO of the Command, Yakubu Sabo late Monday night revealed that efforts are being made to secure the release of the kidnap victims.
The PRO stated that as soon as the command officers received a distress call that a commercial bus was intercepted by armed men and six persons taken into the bush on the Kaduna-Abuja highway, patrol teams within the axis were quickly mobilized to the scene and engaged the hoodlums which resulted in the release of two of the victims, one Rofiat Tijjani, a seventeen year-old and another person, both of whom are from Tudunwada, Kaduna, in the criminals’ desperate attempt to escape.
Sabo added that efforts are still on to rescue the remaining four victims and arrest the criminals. The statement ended with the PRO stating that updates on the operation will be communicated in due course.
The kidnap is coming on the heels of a resurgence of kidnap activities around Kaduna state after months of a seeming lull. More than ten persons, including a member of the state house of Assembly and a military officer, were kidnapped in the last two weeks in the state. The police have also recently arrested more than twenty-five suspected kidnappers while killing several others.
