Plateau eye double, 3SC thrashed in Cup

Nigerian champions Plateau United remained in the hunt for more silverware in the Aiteo Cup with a two-one win over Akwa Starlets while troubled 3SC were handed a heavy 5-1 defeat by Akwa United on Wednesday.

ABS FC, FC Ifeanyiubah, Osun United and Sunshine Stars also qualified for the quarterfinals with wins against Unicem Rovers, Heartland, El-Kanemi Babes and Ngwa FC respectively in the round of 16.

The women’s side of the Aiteo Cup produced big score lines as Nasarawa United hit Beautiful Tours ten-nil to progress and Rivers Angels defeated Ben Women FC 9-0. Edo Queens and Sure Babes also qualified for the quarterfinals.

Six matches, including two in the men’s competition, will be replayed on Saturday after they ended in draws.
