The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has summoned Senator Elisha Abbo over assault on a woman at an Abuja sex toy shop. The video of the PDP senator slapping a nursing mother has gone viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism of Abbo’s action.
In a statement by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP said it is as a law-abiding party, hence it detests and completely condemns such act of “lawlessness and callousness” as exhibited in the video, adding that it will therefore never condone it.
In the light of its take such an issue, the party said it’s National Working Committee has commenced an investigation into the matter. The Senate had earlier set up a bipartisan ad hoc committee headed by a former governor of Ebonyi State, Sam Egwu, to probe the lawmaker’s action.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP) M.A Adamu, has also ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the assault . Specifically, the IGP today directed the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, CP Bala Ciroma to provide a personal and round-the-clock supervision of every facet of the investigation including the forensic analysis of the video currently in circulation as well as the actions and inactions of the policeman seen in the video footage.
The IGP, while assuring citizens of utmost professionalism by the police in the handling of the matter, promised that the Force will ensure that justice is manifestly done in this case irrespective of whose ox is gored.
