Following the high rate of drug abuse in Nigeria, an advice has gone to parents and guardians to monitor their children and the kind of friends they mingle with.
Delivering his paper titled ” Drug abuse in Nigeria ; Rolling back the woes , shame and sorrow ” at the 2018 Annual General meeting and science conference of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), the guest speaker Doctor Alfred Makanjuola said everyone must participate in the fight against drug abuse.
According to him, causes of drug abuse include environmental factor, unemployment, friends, academic pressure among others. He called on lecturers and teachers to handle students with care in order to discourage the menace of drug abuse.
While calling on law enforcement agencies to rise up the challenge, he however advocated for the creation of more drug abuse rehabilitation centres across the country.
In his speech, the NMA chairman, Doctor Kunle Olawepo said the association is set to channel its energy on means of solving the drug abuse crises across the nation.
