The Igbo highest decision-making body, ImeObi Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has endorsed the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, for the February 16, 2019 presidential election.
In a communiqué issued after its meeting on Thursday, the body said it endorsed Atiku after it analyzed the election manifestos of the various contesting parties, especially with regards to the restructuring of the federation and continued relevance of the Igbo people in the Nigerian geopolitical space. It said the endorsement of Atiku is in its collective search for a man that is just, egalitarian and inclusive.
The communique signed by the President General of Ohanaeze, Chief Nnia Nwodo, noted that the PDP by nominating an Igbo man, Peter Obi as the vice presidential candidate has given Ndigbo an opportunity for inclusivity.
He said that the presidential candidate of PDP Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has made an avowed commitment to restructuring of the federation. The group urged Igbos to see their PVCs as their most potent tool to ensure a restructured polity and for a better society. Ohaneze also urged all Igbos to vote and to protect their votes.
