Ogun SDP disowns Falae over N100m arms deal scandal

Ogun SDP disowns Falae over N100m arms deal scandal

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Ogun State has dismissed claims that the N100m allegedly collected by its National Chairman, Chief Olu Falae, was for the party to support the Peoples Democratic Party during the last general elections.SDP

Falae who recently admitted to collecting the sum of N100 million from the ex-Chairman, Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Anenih, said there was no way he could have known that the money was from the funds meant for the procurement of arms for the military fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the north east.

According to Falae, the money was given to the SDP to campaign for the PDP in the 2015 presidential election, adding that both parties prior to the 2015 general elections entered into a working agreement.

But the party, in a statement on Sunday jointly signed by the state Chairman, Chief Olu Agemo, and the Secretary, Clement Adeniyi, in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital distant itself from the claim, saying that the former Secretary to the Federal Government, was on his own over the matter.

The party said “it was never notified of or involved in any negotiation to partner the Peoples Democratic Party or any other party for the purpose of winning the election or maintaining peace during the period, as claimed by Falae.”

“The party was never informed by the national secretariat of the party of the decision to adopt former President Goodluck Jonathan or any other candidate as the party’s presidential candidate.”

Noting that nobody informed the party of any donation of funds by the PDP or any other party, the statement stressed that the party did not receive any financial or campaign logistics in form of assistance from the national secretariat of the party or any of its principal officers.

The party stated that its campaign funds were gotten through advertised publications in The Guardian, The Vanguard, The PUNCH and Nigerian Tribune newspapers of Monday April 20, before the current revelation.

“We plead with our members and supporters who have received these untoward revelations with great shock to remain calm and await the convocation of a general meeting where these issues shall be thoroughly discussed and appropriate decisions would be taken,” the party noted.
