Nurse charged with murder of eight babies at british hospital

A British nurse was charged Wednesday, local time, with murdering eight babies and trying to kill another 10 at a hospital in northwest England.

Cheshire Police said Lucy Letby, 30, was charged following an investigation into deaths at the neonatal unit of the Countess of Chester Hospital, south of Liverpool.

The charges relate to “a number of baby deaths and non-fatal collapses at the neonatal unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital” between June 2015 and June 2016.

Police launched an investigation into the deaths of a number of babies at the hospital in May 2017. Letby was arrested Tuesday for the third time in connection with the deaths. She was previously arrested in 2018 and 2019 and each time bailed pending further enquiries, without being charged.

Letby is being held in custody ahead of a first appearance before magistrates in nearby Warrington on Thursday.
