As part of efforts to promote active participation of electorates in the forthcoming 2023 General elections, Nuhu Fatimoh Foundation, NUFAT, stormed Ilorin-West Local Government Area, to sensitize and raise awareness among the people.
The sensitization programme, held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, was organized by NUFAT, in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) under the Women Voice and Leadership Project (WVL).
The Chief Executive Officer, NUFAT foundation, Dr Asiat Ayinke Saka, charged selected representatives from the LGA to prioritize the collection of their Permanent Voters Cards, PVCs so as to be eligible to vote.
According to her, it is not just enough to register, we must collect our PVCs and make ourselves available to vote at the polling stations on election day.
The former Commissioner noted that the change that Nigerians crave may be delayed if the people themselves do not take their destiny in their hands and vote for competent individuals as leaders.
Saka particularly called on women to get more involved in political activities to make sure the female gender also occupy a fair percentage of leadership positions.
The NUFAT CEO charged eligible residents to get registered as voters, collect their permanent voters card, join a political party, and play active role in political party activities.
Participants at the sensitization and awareness programme had time to ask questions and contribute on issues to include political apathy, money politics, vote trading, election rigging and security.
Other issues included ballot box snatching, harassment and intimidation as well as logistic challenges.
The facilitator explained that with the present pro-active measures taking by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security outfits, the electoral process has become better and enhanced security at polling stations.
