Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage and stand-up comedian, Bright Okpocha have pulled out events that they were billed to attend in South Africa, in solidarity for the outcry against xenophobic attacks on Nigerians living in South Africa.
Tiwa Savage was among the lineup of artists billed to perform at the the 2019 DSTV Delicious International Food and Music Festival. The festival is scheduled to hold on September 21, 2019, in Johannesburg, and is “dedicated to promoting the empowerment of people, protection of the environment and respect for cultural diversity and heritage.”
The gifted songstress took to her Twitter handle on Wednesday to announce that she would not be performing at the festival.
Basketmouth has also pulled out of the Comics Choice Awards, a South African event he was initially billed to attend. Burna Boy had lambasted AKA, South African rapper, over his tension-inciting comments about Nigeria’s relationship with South Africa. Wizkid also described the videos and scenes from the incidents as disheartening, stating that the South Africans are “fighting the wrong war”.
