Nigerian Correctional Service provides update on fleeing inmates in Kuje prison attack

One Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel and four inmates have been confirmed dead during the attack on the Kuje custodial center.

It could be recalled that Boko Haram terrorists on Tuesday night, attacked the center and freed inmates including sixty four of their members held in the custody in the attack that lasted hours.

The Nigerian Correctional Service Spokesperson, Umar Abubakar, in a recent statement said the terrorists used explosives on the center’s fence and its main entrance to gain access to the facility.

UMAR, however, noted that eight hundred and seventy- nine inmates escaped from the facility as against the trending reports of six hundred, adding that four hundred and forty three had been recaptured with five hundred and fifty-one still at large.

He added that the service will collaborate with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to track all the fleeing inmates.

The spokespersons also said three personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service and sixteen inmates were seriously injured and are being treated at the moment with ongoing efforts aimed to recapture all fleeing inmates.

He also dismissed claims that DCP Abba Kyari escaped from the center during the attack.
