The United Kingdom has denied that the Federal Government made a request for it to shut down Radio Biafra.
The radio station is being run in the United Kingdom by Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
It could be recalled that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed had said the Federal Government approached the British government to shut down the station but it didn’t.
The Spokesman of the British High Commission, Joe Abuku reacting to this in a statement said that the UK would have considered the request carefully, if it had received such a request.
He said, “The UK is not aware of any representation from the Nigerian government about Radio Biafra,” he said in a statement.
“Were we to receive any such request, we would, of course, consider it carefully on the basis of the available evidence, recognising that freedom of speech and expression carries responsibilities.”
